Together we make Calgary a great place to make a living, a great place to make a life. values benefits As a Building Maintenance Lead Hand, you will be responsible for directing the work of Building Maintenance Workers and contractors who service and repair City-owned and managed buildings and properties. Primary duties include: Provide direction to Building Maintenance Workers including orienting new employees, prioritizing and assigning work, monitoring performance, and organizing training. Assign, coordinate, and assist in the repairs to structural components and equipment such as overhead doors, roofs, washrooms, floors, and irrigation systems. Listen to client needs and identify options and potential solutions, including scheduling work that will have an impact on their operations. Coordinate preventative maintenance work plan for building maintenance staff. Identify, organize, and track building maintenance action items. Act as the point of contact for tenants on issues and concerns related to the operation of the building they occupy. Coordinate the work of contractors including communicating the scope of work, safety issues, and operational considerations. Collaborate with suppliers/vendors to ensure City is getting quality parts and service and are up-to-date with emerging technologies. Potential exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, heights, dangerous equipment and/ or hazardous materials. Heavy lifting and working in confined or isolated spaces may be required. Qualifications A High school diploma or provincial equivalent (for example: GED). A minimum of 5 years of related experience in building maintenance and/or building operations. A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending. Working knowledge of pumps, motors, manual and electric operators, drainage and irrigation systems is required. Previous trade experience (such as mechanical, electrical and/or carpentry) will be considered assets. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with demonstrated customer focus.
