Currently, we are looking to fill the following vacancy:


Supervisor of Landfill Operations and Collection

  • Permanent, full-time position


Reporting to the Manager of Waste Operations and Resource Recovery, you will primarily be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising the work of equipment operators and laborers engaged in landfill operations and curbside collection. You will possess considerable successful experience in the safe, effective and efficient operation and maintenance of the heavy equipment and trucks required to operate landfills and waste collection.


Duties & responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for supervision of all landfill and collection employees and enforcement of all required safety and work procedures and policies.
  • You will be responsible for the efficient use of labour, machines, and materials by staff, and will report on such things as personnel, costs, and safety.
  • You will actively participate, cooperate, and assist other managers and staff in the development of annual and capital operating budgets, and strategic and business plans.
  • You will supervise curbside collection programs including data management, improvement studies and all operational components.
  • Other duties will include the planning and scheduling of work, overseeing and reporting maintenance and equipment repairs, monitoring and maintaining leachate management systems, and assisting with capital construction projects.


Qualifications & skills:

  • You are a college or university graduate in Waste Management, Environmental Sciences or other related field, with a minimum of five years’ of experience in the waste management sector.
  • Successful completion of Occupational Health and Safety training, First Aid training, WHMIS training, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training.
  • Certified Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO).
  • Certified Emergency Spills Clean Up.
  • Experience with budget preparation and management.
  • A team player with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, able to respect and deal with highly confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Strong leadership and performance management skills with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in order to meet deadlines in a very demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, contractors and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • A valid Class G driver’s license with a clean abstract is required.


A 3 year uncertified driver’s record obtained from Service Ontario must be submitted with your resume.
