The Stratford Police Services Board , which serves Stratford, St Mary's and South Perth, is seeking applications from police service leaders who possess the knowledge, skills and competencies required to be the next Chief of Police for the Stratford Police Service.

The Chief of Police is responsible for the management, administration and operations of the Police Service, the maintenance of law and order in the municipality, and the maintenance of discipline within the Police Service, subject to the general direction of the Stratford Police Services Board and the provisions of The Police Act, Section 31(1)(d) and its regulations.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of police service career progression, combined with exceptional communication and relationship building skills, accompanied by proven values such as integrity, fairness, cultural sensitivity and accountability. The new Chief must have a thorough understanding of, and experience with, police service organizational systems, information management, human resources, labour issues and knowledge of the full range of law enforcement operations.

The new Chief must be someone who has a clear understanding of the policing challenges created by a combined population of 46,000. This must be a police leader who has an appreciation of the impact created by the large influx of tourism into the area each year. The new Chief will understand the responsibility of overseeing a nearly $11 million forecasted 2018 police budget. The new Chief will have the right ‘proven experience’ to lead the 57 staff of officers and civilians. The new chief will be a decision maker, a strategic planner and a skilled manager of people.

Stratford’s next Chief of Police will have a proven ability to motivate a police service, to ensure trust between the Police Service and the residents of the area and be able to maintain effective and positive working relationships with other government and community leaders.
