Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Grant Writer will support the County in maximizing opportunities to secure funding from other levels of government and external sources, for investment in – and successful delivery of – projects, programs and services. Experienced in the preparation of proposals, narratives, budgets and status reports, the successful candidate will cultivate funder relationships and use knowledge of the funding environment to monitor and identify government and industry channels for prospective funding sources that will support Northumberland County operations. You will provide timely advice and information to internal stakeholders about funding opportunities, requirements, and procedures; research and draft persuasive content regarding the County mission and vision as well as programs and services; and coordinate the submission of proposals. Where applications are successful, you will work with the Communications team to support promotions, as well as ensure the County’s compliance with accountabilities under the funding agreement, including liaising with internal stakeholders to collect data on the performance of the funded initiative, and preparing status reports and budget submissions within prescribed timelines.

Qualifications & skills:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration, political science, communications or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ of experience in grant writing for public sector or non-profit organizations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of funding environment and how to accurately identify appropriate funding opportunities, as well as successful grant application procedures.
  • Demonstrated analytical and persuasive writing skills, as well as superior editing skills and attention to detail, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience.
  • Strong project management skills, adept at setting priorities, managing multiple tasks and delivering quality work in a deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.
  • Customer-focused, with high emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to effectively coordinate proposal input, grant tracking and reporting.
  • Skilled meeting facilitator and strong contributor in team environments.
  • A high level of computer literacy is required including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and leveraging the Internet and other sources for monitoring and research.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills are essential.
