Job Description

Works Technician 1 - Traffic 

Reporting to the Traffic Signals Supervisor, the incumbent will: 

  • Assist in the setup and repair of all traffic signal control devices and associated peripheral systems such as fire/rail preemption transmitters and data communication modems/routers
  • Perform diagnostic testing, evaluations, re-calibrations and bench repair of electronic circuitry
  • Organize materials, equipment and prepare related work orders and requisitions
  • Provide technical and field assistance in the installation, wiring and construction of traffic control signals and related devices 

The successful applicant will possess: 

  • A three-year post-secondary diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology
  • Registration or eligible for registration as a Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T.
  • Associated work related experience
  • Basic knowledge of National Electrical Manufacturers Association Standards, Ontario Electrical Safety Code and Electrical Safety Authority Regulations, Ontario Manual of Traffic Control, Traffic Control Manual for Roadway Operations, Ontario Provincial Standards, Ministry of Transportation CVOR Regulations, and Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), and other traffic-related programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, effective customer service, time management, and organizational skills
  • A valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and the use of a reliable vehicle A DZ Driver's Licence would be deemed an asset.

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 5 

This position is with Salary Grade 5 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:

- Start: $33.86 - Six Month: $35.74 - Job: $37.62

Conditions of Employment 

Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will be required prior to start date. A current satisfactory Driver's Abstract will also be required.
